If you take a five-minute shower and flush your toilet once, you\u2019ve already used more than the daily allotment of water for Cape Town, South Africa, residents!<\/strong><\/p>\n Cape Town approaches\u00a0\u201cDay Zero,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0– the day that the city is expected to run out of water.\u00a0Adrought triggered by El Ni\u00f1o-two years ago hit agricultural production throughout South Africa. Cape Town was hit particularly hard, and the lack of reconstructive rains following the incident has made the shortage even worse.<\/p>\n In order to push the date\u00a0far strict regulations have been implemented to extend the life of the available water supply. Residents were limited to 23 gallons per person per day, and later to 13 gallons, pushing \u201cDay Zero\u201d back from June 4 to July 9. The amazing efforts in\u00a0water restrictions finally\u00a0resulted in pushing the date back a full year, to\u00a02019<\/a>.<\/p>\n This is a great example of where good practices and\u00a0benevolence\u00a0can profit the greater good.<\/strong><\/p>\nWhen it comes to water consumption, here are 2 simple rules:<\/h4>\n
